Kimberly Austin-Baker
President/Founder

Kimberly Austin-Baker is a Spinal Cord Injury Survivor of 16+ years, a graduate of Oakland Community College and the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Our Vision
Disability Awareness Project - Detroit has a goal to provide the Metro-Detroit area with valuable information about the disabled community and related issues in order to increase compassion, social acceptance, tolerance and understanding of persons with disabilities through community action and outreach from the classroom to the boardroom with interactive seminars, training sessions, and workshops.
Our Story
Disability Awareness Project began as a simple idea about how to make a positive community effort that focuses on giving back and promoting change in local neighborhoods. DAPDET is centered on the neighboring communities in the Metro Detroit area. Through my own experiences, I saw an opportunity to connect people with disabilities with the rest of the world. My passion for spreading the spirit of inclusion and compassion led to the creation of the Disability Awareness Project. Disability Awareness Project - Detroit was imagined and established a philanthropic effort to provide a service that inspires a culture of inclusion and diversity for individuals with and without disabilities within my communities.
